What makes Waiheke Island so special? We asked local artists, winemakers, chefs, restaurateurs, historians, kaumatua, and more why they are so proud to call this unique island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf home. What results is a loving homage to the island by well-known residents, and the book features more than 130 stunning images from one of New Zealand’s leading photographers, Waiheke local Peter Rees, that capture the island’s spirit.
The proceeds from The Spirit of Waiheke will go towards supporting children’s programmes and events on Waiheke Island. The Waiheke Spirit Children’s Charitable Trust, proudly managed by Perpetual Guardian Foundation, will help children on the island who do not have the means required to learn to swim, dance, to become a sea scout, play an instrument and many more important life skills so they can reach their full potential and fulfill their dreams.
